Where to stay when in Oakland? Here is my number one choice...Downtown Oakland. Bay Area Rapid Transit(BART) runs through downtown Oakland and is a great way to travel. For about $6.00 roundtrip, you can get to San Francisco. If you want to catch a Raiders, Warriors, or A's game , BART will take you there. But convenient transportation is just part of it. You are steps away from Oakland Chinatown with it's many noodle shops. Also, make a point to check out the Friday Farmer's Market. You'll find music, fresh produce, great popcorn, and a festive atmosphere.
Another great area is Jack London Square. You've got ferry service to San Francisco and an array of upscale dining. The movie theatre is just a few blocks away and Yoshi's for Jazz lovers.
For the best hotel rates around, I recommend Orbitz. For Downtown Oakland, I suggest the Courtyard Marriott. It's a newly built accommodation and is in the heart of all the activity. If you want a little bit more posh, you may also try the City Marriott. It's just a couple of blocks away and right across from the BART access.
