Each designer uses a different size chart. Each sizing chart is only applicable to the gowns made by that particular manufacturer. Your measurements must be compared against the appropriate manufacturer’s size chart.
If you have a seamstress that you work with, have her take your measurements for you.
If you do not have a seamstress, you may wish to start looking for one now as most every gown requires some sort of alteration. If you need assistance, please let us know and we will research some options for you.
If a seamstress is not readily available, have a friend take your measurements for you. I recommend taking each measurement three times to ensure that you have measured correctly.
To help you select the appropriate size, you need the following measurements:
Bust:
Measure around the widest part of the back, straight across the fullest part of the bust, not under the bust line. Be aware that wearing no bra versus a strapless or regular bra can make quite a difference in measurements. Do not use your bra size measurement since a 34A is a very different measurement from 34D. Plus, note that the time of the month that measurements are taken can cause bust line measurements to fluctuate. Make sure to keep your hands down by your side.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline. Make sure you're not holding your stomach in while you take this measurement! Leave one finger under the measuring tape so that the tape can be moved. You don't want to give us a skintight measurement.
Hips:
Measure around the fullest part of the hip. Put your thumbs at your natural waist and rest your hands on your hips. The tip of your fingers should be the area to measure for your hips.
Hollow to Hem:
This is from the hollow of your throat to the floor. This measurement helps to determine if extra length may be required. If any member of your bridal party is over 5'7”, this measurement is a must.
Once you have your measurements, cross-reference them with the size chart from the designer of the dress you've chosen to determine the appropriate size. If you need any help with size selection,
